Manson Donald Ernset Murchison was born in 1922 and raised in Point Prim, Prince Edward Island. He carried on the family tradition of seafaring, working as a fisherman and lighthouse keeper. He maintained two lighthouses; one at Point Prim, Prince Edward Island, and one in Caribou Island, Nova Scotia. During his tenure on the sea Manson claimed to have seen the 'Phantom Ship', a ghost ship sailing the Northumberland Strait, twice. He was also a veteran of World War II.
Manson died at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on February 5th, 2002 at the age of 80. He was the husband of Jennie Murchison, a father of 2 children and grandfather of 4 children. Branch #7 of the Royal Canadian Legion held a service of remembrance for Manson at his funeral.
