Frank Woodside was born in Summerside, Prince Edward Island in 1911. He lived his entire life in Summerside. From his earliest days Frank kept in great physical health by working as a blacksmith with his father and uncle, and as a firefighter for 30 years with the Summerside Fire Department. He served in World War II and survived the conflict, returning to Summerside after the war.
Frank had a passion for skating and for hockey. In his hockey career he was a dominant player for the Crystal's hockey club. He is one of only few players to play every position as well, starting off as a goalie and working his way through the rest of the line up. Frank kept skating and kept healthy well into his 80s, helping out at farms or odd jobs wherever he was requested.
Frank died on February 5th, 2002 at Prince County Hospital at the age of 91 He was predeceased by his first wife Ruth Woodside, and his second wife Alene Woodside. He was the father of 3 children, 11 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. Upon his death, members of the Summerside Branch of the Canadian Legion held a service of remembrance.
