James Augustus 'Gus' Gregory was born in Chepstow, Prince Edward Island. He spent the majority of his life there working as a fisherman. James worked on some of the first draggers out of the Souris area and was witness to the best and the last days of cod fishing off the coast of Prince Edward Island.
James was also a World War II veteran. He survived his trip overseas and had many stories to tell. He claimed that his life was saved by a pack of cigarettes when he bent over to pick them up and a sniper's bullet just missed him.
James Gregory died on April 10th, 2008 at Souris Hospital at the age of 90. He was the husband of Florence Gregory, and a father of 2 children. He was also a member of the Souris Legion who paid tribute to him at his funeral.
