Mike Avery lived in Fort Augustus, Prince Edward Island, and worked as a railway man for the Canadian National Railway. He was one of the last hired for the Canadian National Railway on Prince Edward Island and worked right up until the railroad was abandoned on Prince Edward Island in 1989.d Island. He lived his life there tending to the family farm. He also worked as a daily worker shoveling snow and removing debris from the railway which went past his home. John lived as a bachelor.
