Leo 'Sailor' MacDonald was the chief of police in Springhill, Nova Scotia for many years. He is mentioned briefly in the book 'Miracle at Springhill' by Leonard Lerner which details a coal mining disaster in the town of Springhill. During his youth in Nova Scotia he also proved to be a great baseball player for the Springhill Fencebusters in the 1930's. He allegedly played an exhibition game against the great Babe Ruth who enjoyed excursions to Nova Scotia in his earlier days.
